Metamorphosis is the complete stage process of butterflies. It includes four main stages and they are: Egg→ Larva→ Pupa→ Adult

Butterfly Lifecycle image

Stage 1: It consists of eggs that are laid by adult butterflies on the leaf. After five days or more, the eggs are hatched and worms erupt from it.

Stage 2: This stage is called larvae or caterpillars. Worms are grown to caterpillars. Well, they eat and consumes the leaves on which they are grown. Thus the growth of Caterpillar increases day by day.

There is fast growth visible in caterpillars because they eat all the time. Thus there are the stages where Caterpillars shades their skin due to increase in their size and this continues for almost four times in their life cycle. This process of shading skin is called moulting.

Stage 3: Chrysalis or said as Pupa is the stage where butterflies initiate to take their real form. When the Caterpillars are completely grown by eating leaves and flowers, they undergo in resting condition.

Thereafter the shape of Caterpillars starts on changing with a rapid period of time. This stage does not take more time to convert Caterpillar→Butterflies.

Stage 4: Moving on to the stage where Caterpillars have grown to pupa and then an adult butterfly formation. The Chrysalis gets opened and butterfly comes out. At first, the butterfly is moist and damp, and it rests in that condition.

When the butterfly is completely grown, it starts flapping their wings. The blood starts circulating in wings and slowly it learns to take flights. For the butterflies initially it is bit tough, but they practices and starts flying.

Hence the adult butterflies fly over various flowers and look up for their mates. Thus after mating, again the butterflies starts laying eggs and life cycle continues.
